About Ronald

Ronald J Vaughn Sr. has been a Lieutenant with the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department for 26 years. During that time, he has served as a Firefighter and Paramedic. He was also a member of the department’s Special Event, Water Rescue, and Critical Incident Stress Management Teams. Lieutenant Vaughn served on various fire department boards such as the Paramedic Advisory and Vehicle Accident Review Boards. He also volunteered as a board member for the Dallas Black Firefighter Association and was a member of the Dallas Hispanic Firefighter Associate. Lieutenant Vaughn provided CPR training in the community and went back to school, even though he had a bachelor’s degree to get his associate degree from Trinity Valley College. When asked why he went back for the Associate while he already had a bachelor’s he said, “When I was at a Community College, I didn’t get one and I wanted to finish what I started.”

During his time at the rank of Firefighter/Paramedic, he was assigned to Stations 35 in Northwest Dallas and 28 Lake Highlands. After being promoted to Driver he was assigned to Station 35 and later moved on to Stations 5 Pleasant Grove and 48 Old Lake Highlands. He served briefly at Station 58 Cypress Waters while transitioning to Station 18 Downtown as a Lieutenant. After serving at Station 18 he was assigned to City Hall as the department’s Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Lieutenant.

While serving as a GIS Specialist he also serves as The North Texas Representative for the South-Central GIS User Group. Lieutenant Vaughn has presented at a variety of conferences, seminars, workshops, and has been a Keynote Speaker. During his career, he has been interviewed on Podcast and Video.

Lieutenant Vaughn has received several departmental commendations and has won the Dallas Fire-Rescue Paramedic of the Year and Staff Officer of the Year awards. He has also won the Dori Miller Veterans of Foreign Wars Paramedic of the Year award and the Dori Miller Fire Fighter of the Year award. He has been recognized by community groups and his professional organizations.

Lieutenant Vaughn went back to school and received a master’s degree in Leadership with an Emphasis on Emergency Management and Homeland Security from Grand Canyon University. The reason he stated, “I am looking forward to the next challenge and chapter of my life.”
